Graphic Battle @ maison du peuple in Brussels

This 18th November, “maison du Peuple”, a very good code in cafes spot, will host the first Brussels Graphic Battle.

The idea is simple ! Take a bunch of graphists and ask them to perform their art in a limited time on a chosen thema.

The public will decide who is going to be the winner.

This is an event not to be missed !!

Factory Cafe

Tags: ,

I must admit that when I’m on Holiday I tend to leave computers at home.

However, while in Cannes I had the chance to meet the happy people of the Factory-Cafe right in the Gray-D’Albion Shopping Center. These guys are really joyful and while serving good meals ( you must absolutely try the home made lasania and the “tartare poelé” )  they also have a WiFi connection.

And believe me, when there is 30° outside there is no place as a good terrace, away from the sun rays, to have a fresh drink, eat something really good and check emails with an Ipod touch (for example).

Really good crowd out there, the cafe is full of returning customers working in the surroundings which proves this place is a sweet spot.

The staff is very very dynamic and ready to attend with simplicity, efficiency, and a lot of fun.

The WiFi connection works fine with a fresh rosé de la maison.

Coffee Company (Vleurgat)

coffee companyDid I mentioned previously that Brussels is full of surprises ? I guess I did ! And once again, the Coffee Company is a VERY GOOD Surprise.

The place is little but gorgeously decorated. Lots of different things to drink there: all kinds of coffees, flavored milks, fresh juices, smoothies and chocolates.

Fancy something to eat ? You can have all sorts of Bagels, Croque Monsieur, ice creams and quiches. The Wi-FI network’s name is ITSUP. No password needed. Music is cool, well, the radio is cool, and furniture is trendy ans it’s a no smoking place. just a little drawback: the seats have no back but well…unless you plan to stay hours…that is still fine.

Everything can be taken away. From the bagels to some special chocolate treats. There are also special wine bottles and Champagne.

Is this going to be the  Brussels Starbucks ? I don’t know, but once again, it’s trendy, beautiful and DELICIOUS.The network is strong and quick and there are two power outlets if your laptop needs juice too.

So you’ll be happy and your laptop will be happy too. Even if you don’t plan to code don’t hesitate to pay a visit to the Coffee Company just for a good coffee or for an incredible flavored milk. Satisfaction guarantied. A very good place to code.

The M’eating Place

meatingcrop2Right in the European quarter (rue Montoyer, next to place du Luxembourg) you’ll find this sandwich/snack bar with a good WiFi connection.

As many of these establishments in the European quarter, it’s only opened during weeks from  7h00 to 14h30 (Monday to friday) . During lunch time there is a queue to get the sandwiches which are freshly prepared on the fly (but you can order them by phone or just by passing by in the morning).

Aside the sandwiches, you can get fresh salads, pastas, quiches, rice based meals and also eggs based dishes.  There is also meals of the day on a chalkboard inside the snack. (It’s clearly a snack++).

You’ll find a few tables to get started coding. The ambient is good and very dynamic (just as the owner is). The radio is on in case you’ve missed the news and you’ll find two power outlets next to one of the tables inside (on the right wall when you enter).

When sunny you can get connected outside as two tables are installed on the Montoyer street, which is perfect for a quick breakfast and surf before going to work.

All in all, this is a good casual code in cafés place: the owner is dynamic and sympathetic, fresh food and a good WiFi connection but you’ll need a password to get connected so don’t hesistate in asking it to the owner.

La Maison Du Peuple…

La Maison du PeupleLa Maison du Peuple“, right on the Parvis de Saint Gilles is one of the best places in Brussels to do Socio Coding

There’s always a Mac or laptop/netbook on a table. The coding area seems to be in the middle part of the hall, mainly because you’ll find power outlets there! Yes, This is one of the few places with power plugs on the wall, just for you to plug your device power supply in and stay a little longer.

The wifi network is one of the quickest I’ve tried ant it’s open so no password needed.

The crew is very cool and young but you’ll have to order at the bar, no one comes to get your order…

The ambient music is cool and perfectly fits with the place’s mood and crowd. The walls offer the right support for art exhibitions, consequently, the decoration changes nicely from week to week. Note that there are also live concerts, D.J. sets and parties from time to time, so stop coding and enjoy the moment.  (Just check their website for the events to come)

This is, so far, a top code in cafés place!  Try it!
